What this site is

A free educational resource about raising native North American butterflies and moths, and about the plants and habitat they need. It is a personal site, not a research institution, a veterinary practice, a government agency, or a commercial supplier.

Using the content

Everything here — text, illustrations, diagrams, worksheets and printables — is © Raising a Butterfly unless stated otherwise. Photographs are served by third parties under their own licences.

You may:

• Read, print and use the material for your own rearing project, classroom, club or family.
• Print and copy the worksheets, observation logs and other classroom printables as many times as your group needs.
• Link to any page here from anywhere.

You may not republish the written content elsewhere as your own, sell it, or use it to train a model without written permission. If you want to use something beyond that, ask at hi@raisingabutterfly.com — the answer is usually yes.

Advertising and affiliate links

This site carries advertising through Google AdSense, and some links to equipment, books and supplies are affiliate links, including Amazon affiliate links. If you buy through one, the site may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Affiliate links do not change what gets recommended. Nothing is recommended here that would not be recommended without a commission, and a product being unavailable through an affiliate programme is not a reason to leave it out.

Accuracy, and the absence of any warranty

The site is provided as it is, with no warranty of any kind. Rearing information is offered in good faith and from genuine experience, but living animals are not predictable and no outcome is guaranteed.

Limits of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Raising a Butterfly is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this site or from anything you do as a result of reading it — including the death of animals in your care, wasted expenditure, or any legal consequence of collecting, keeping or releasing wildlife.

You are responsible for what you do with the information.

Links to other sites

Links to extension services, conservation organisations, suppliers and other sites are offered as a convenience. Those sites are not under this site's control, and linking to one is not an endorsement of everything on it.

Changes

Pages here are updated, replaced and occasionally removed without notice. These terms may change too; the effective date above shows when they last did.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of Ontario, Canada, and any dispute arising from them is subject to the courts of Ontario, Canada.
